Nearly half of the mobile devices activated this holiday season came from Apple, according to a report from mobile analytics company Flurry. The reports says 49.1% of activations were for Apple devices and Samsung was in second place this season with 19.8%. Moving from there, Microsoft's Nokia was in third place with just 2.0%.

Compared to last year, Apple's share has decreased slightly from 51.3% and Samsung's has increased by about 2.1%. Microsoft's phones and Sony's took a big hit this season, while Xiaomi's share increased to 1.5%.

This report also found phablet activations increased from 13% to 27% and mid-size phones dropped from 64% to 54%. That data supports the view that large smartphones are taking over the market and infringing on tablet sales--the share for tablets fell from 11% to 9%.
