Xiaomi Technology has announced that it shipped 70 million smartphones in 2015, falling short of its target of 80-100 million units set for the year.

Xiaomi will begin marketing its new model, the Xiaomi Mi 5, immediately after the Lunar New Year holidays.

Meanwhile, the vendor will form a research lab, initially to focus on the development of virtual reality and robot products, according to company founder and CEO Lei Jun.
