Smartphone sales in the Taiwan market are expected to stay flat at 7.5-8.0 million units in 2016 as compared to a year earlier, according to sources from local retail channels.

Meanwhile, the proportion of sales of high-end models will continue to fall, which will push vendors to focus on renovation and differentiation, while also strengthening their deployments in new products, said the sources.

Samsung Electronics is stressing on cross-platform experience by integrating the platforms for its smartphones and smart household appliances, while also promoting wearable and virtual reality (VR) devices, indicated the sources.

HTC is ready to launch its VR device, the HTC Vive, in April and also plans to release its smart bracelets in cooperation with US-based Under Armour.

Meanwhile, other vendors including Huawei, Xiaomi Technology, LG Electronics and Sony Mobile Communications will step into the wearable, VR device and smart household appliance markets, added the sources.
