Huawei Device on March 1 launched Mate 8, its Android 6.0 flagship smartphone, in the Taiwan market at a contract-free retail price of NT$17,900 (US$535).
Mate 8 features a Kirin 950 2.3GHz + 1.8GHz 8-core processor developed by Huawei's affiliate HiSilicon Technologies, 6-inch Full HD IPS display panel, fingerprint recognition, 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM, a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 8-megapixel front camera, according to its Taiwan sales agent.
Huawei Device saw 2015 smartphone sales in the Taiwan market grow 30% on year and aims at on-year growth of 30% in sales value and 15-20% in sales volume in 2016. To enhance marketing in the Taiwan market, Huawei Device will launch 7-8 models as well as set up three additional self-operated retail stores and three additional maintenance centers in 2016. In addition, Huawei Device has set is 2016 marketing budget at double the amount for 2015.
Huawei Device sold 108 million smartphones globally in 2015, hiking 44% on year, with the third largest global market share of nearly 9.9%.
