It looks like Intel has won a battle to supply a "significant portion" of the cellular modems for Apple's next-generation smartphone known as the iPhone 7. If true, the iPhone 7 could use Intel's latest XMM 7360 modem, which supports LTE Category 10.
The LTE Category 10 supports download speeds of 450 Mbps and uplink speeds of 100 Mbps. This deal means a roughly $1 billion opportunity for Intel's struggling mobile group, as it will supply about 30 to 40 percent of the iPhone's cellular modems. There are also some reports that Apple might use Qualcomm's MDM9645 chip, which supports 600 Mbps download speeds and 150 Mbps upload speeds. |
