With its latest flagship smartphones, Samsung decided to change the rear camera sensor from the Galaxy S6. The new camera sensor in the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have bigger individual pixels and a wider aperture, with the addition of new Dual Pixel autofocus system.
While many of us were expecting the use of BRITECELL camera, earlier reports suggested the use of Sony's 1/2.5-inch IMX260 camera sensor. However, it looks like the camera sensors in both the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge might vary from user to user.
Some models will use Samsung's own camera sensor, and some Sony's camera sensors. The good news is there are no differences in image quality or camera functionality other than the hardware.
The company has also started with the mass production its Dual Pixel sensor for mobile. The new 1.4 μm-pixel image sensor have very fast autofocus thanks to the ISOCELL and Dual Pixel technologies. The image sensor also stacks a 65nm sensor and 28nm logic chip together for better performance.
It is only a matter of time before other smartphone manufacturers decide to use Samsung's camera sensor. |
