More than 1.5 billion smartphone units will be sold this year, up 7% from 2015. Though, that's actually a small amount of growth relative to what's been seen in previous years. Gartner reports the phone market overall could see 1.9 billion unit sales when you factor in more than just smartphones.

Much of the growth that still exists in the smartphone industry is coming from emerging markets. But, in places like India, growth is slowing down.

It's expected Apple will report fewer sales year-over-year, leaving Android with a larger share of the sales than it had in 2015.
