Asustek Computer chairman Jonney Shih reportedly plans to resign from his position and will let Pegatron Technology's vice chairman Ted Hsu succeed him. Asustek confirmed that Hsu will return to become the company's strategy officer and will also join the board of directors, but Asustek and Pegatron both declined to comment on the speculation about Hsu becoming chairman of Asustek.
Hsu was a co-founder of Asustek and when Asustek spun off its manufacturing arm Pegatron in 2008, Hsu chose to work for Pegatron.
The decision to have Hsu return to take over Asustek's management is unlikely to greatly affect the company's operation in the short term, as he has always been the bridge of communication between Asustek and Pegatron. He also handles problems including personnel, product R&D, design and orders, between the two companies.
However, having Hsu become Asustek's chairman is expected to create issues within Asustek's management team. Hsu is known for its aggressiveness and with Hsu's return, Asustek is expected to reshuffle its personnel, including its team in China.
