Shipments of smartphones byTaiwan-based handset brands and ODMs totaled 13.95 million units in the first quarter of 2016, declining 22.2% on quarter and 20.5% on year, according to data gathered by Digitimes Research.
Brand vendors including HTC, Asustek Computer and Acer saw their shipments slide over 20% on quarter during the January-March period, while ODMs including Compal Electronics, the Foxconn Group, Arima Communications and Wistron saw their combined shipments dip 18% during the same period, said Digitimes Research.
Among the ODMs, Foxconn and Arima suffered the most in shipments in the first quarter due to decreased orders from Sony Mobile Communications and Microsoft. But Compal managed to ramp up its shipments in the quarter thanks to orders from China-based LeTV.
Compal also led all brand vendors and ODMs in terms of shipments, shipping a total of 3.7 million units in the first quarter, and Asustek followed with 3.5 million units. HTC took the third position in the absence of new flagship model, Digitimes Research said. |
