Asustek Computer has announced consolidated revenues of NT$26.07 billion (US$801.77 million) for April, dropping sharply by 42.4% on month and 12.7% on year. Combined consolidated revenues for the first four months of 2016 were NT$136.12 billion, up 3.1% on year.

Asustek said the weak April revenues were because the company is ready to launch new products, and its tablet shipments have been dropping recently. Asustek expects revenues to enjoy on-month growth in both May and June, and it will see the amount return to between NT$30-40 billion a month.

Asustek's new ZenFone 3-series smartphones will be announced at a pre-Computex show on May 30 and will begin mass shipments in July.

However, the company may still see difficulties achieving its annual smartphone shipment goal of 25 million units in 2016 as competition in emerging markets such as China, India and Southeast Asia has been growing fierce.

Asustek shipped one million tablets in the first quarter of 2016, down from 1.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2015, and is aiming to ship 5-6 million units in 2016. Asustek's notebook shipments were 4.8 million units in the first quarter, down from the previous quarter's 5.4 million. Asustek's annual goal is 20 million units for 2016.

Asustek shipped 500,000 desktops in the first quarter, down slightly from 600,000 units in the fourth quarter of 2015, and is estimated to ship 2-4 million desktops in 2016. Asustek's smartphone shipments in the first quarter were four million units, down sharply from 6.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2015.
