In the face of rising tablet PC demand, Memoright will certainly not be absent from the tablet storage market, according to company president Alex Kuo. Initially Memoright will cooperate with Taiwan-based system vendors to deliver embedded MMC (eMMC) solutions used in tablets.
Memoright specializes in the design and manufacture of high-end and ruggedized solid-state drives (SSD) for specific applications. The company is looking to follow a diversified approach, targeting customers at the bottom of the pyramid, Kuo pointed out.
Kuo claimed that Memoright is among the very few SSD players who can provide storage solutions for tablet devices. The new product segment should contribute to revenues starting 2011, according to Kuo.
Kuo believes that the market for embedded SSDs will grow even more robustly in 2011, driven by the adoption in tablet PCs. Memoright has rolled out two series of modules - the M1000 and MSE - with the former based on the eMMC specification and the latter on the mini-SATA (mSATA) interface standard, Kuo revealed. The M1000 series is available in up to 64GB capacities, and the MSE enables access to up to 128GB.
Unlike steady shipments to the military sector, shipments for mass-market products like tablet PCs are more difficult to estimate, Kuo indicated. Therefore, Kuo said, Memoright has to be more cautious about building up its stockpiles after tapping the consumer-driven segment.
In addition to tablet storage, Memoright is also paving the way for its next growth engine by offering SSDs for industrial PCs (IPCs), Kuo indicated. Combining its expertise for SSD with in-house developed controller solutions, Memoright has an edge over rival module companies as it provides customers a more complete product portfolio and technical follow-up services, Kuo noted.
Military-level ruggedized SSDs will still remain the largest contributor to company revenues in 2011, according to Kuo.
