Microsoft's sale of its feature phone business to Foxconn will already take a big chunk out of its handset division and it appears Microsoft wants to cut the division even more. The company is going to further "streamline" its smartphone business, which means removing up to 1,850 jobs, 1,350 of which will be in Finland.

Myersen revealed Microsoft's plan in an internal memo to staff, though Microsoft has publicly restated its commitment to Windows phones, one of which may be the rumored Surface Phone.

The company says it will help all of the impacted employees as much as it can.
