Judging from the current order visibility, MediaTek chief financial officer David Ku expects the company to meet the mid-point to high-end of its sales guidance for the second quarter of 2016.

Nevertheless, MediaTek's gross margin for the second quarter will remain below 40% due to price pressure in the smartphone-IC market, Ku said.

MediaTek has guided that revenues will grow 24-32% sequentially to between NT$69.3 billion (US$2.12 billion) and NT$73.8 billion in the second quarter, and rise about 10% in all of 2016.

Market watchers expect MediaTek to post revenue growth of nearly 30% sequentially in the second quarter of 2016. In addition, MediaTek previously remarked that the company is aiming for record revenues and shipments of smartphone chips in 2016, and the progress toward achieving the goal has been well ahead of schedule, the watchers said.
