The market for wearables is quickly growing and it's expected to increase 29% this year alone. With that increase, IDC predicts there will be 100 million units shipped by the end of 2016. Wrist bands will account for 51.4 million shipments and watches will account for 41.8 million.

Non-wrist wearables aren't expected to be anywhere near as popular, continuing a trend that's existed since the market appeared. As such, only 8.7 million shipments will be for other kinds of wearables (e.g. eyewear).
In the coming years, IDC believes watches will overtake wrist bands in the market, eventually accounting for 52.1% of shipments in 2020.
