TCL has reported that its smartphone shipments declined 12.7% on year to 3.219 million units in May, but shipments of LCD TVs grew 16.1% to 1.305 million units in the month.

Meanwhile, shipments of smart connected TVs surged 91.3% on year to 598,000 units. During the January-May period, smart connected TV shipments totaled 3.768 million units, increasing 50.6% from a year earlier.

Sales of household appliances also remained brisk in May, with major items including air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines growing 22.6%, 33.7% and 16.2%, respectively, on year.

Total shipments of handsets, including smartphones and feature phones, reached 6.133 million units in May, up 11.3% on year. For the first five months of 2016, handset shipments grew 3.4% on year, but smartphone shipments alone declined 14.25% during the period.
