Seagate Technology on Wednesday said that it has cut another 1,600 jobs, or 3 percent of its global workforce, according to a securities filing by the Cupertino, Calif. storage firm.
An unknown number of workers are in Seagate’s design facility in Longmont, but spokeswoman Cindy Martini said she could not confirm if any jobs were impacted. However, she said Seagate has 1,600 employees in Colorado.
On message board TheLayoff.com, anonymous users said there were at least 5 people and up to 70 cut in Longmont.
Martini also pointed to the company’s securities filing announcing the job cuts. The layoffs are part of “previously announced efforts to reduce its cost structure,” it read. The restructuring is expected to wrap up by the end of September, and Seagate plans to take a $62 million charge to cover employee termination costs.
