Elpida Memory has announced that Akita Elpida Memory, a packaging and testing subsidiary of Elpida, has resumed production on restoration of electricity supply.
Akita Elpida suspended operation due to power outages caused by the massive earthquake that struck northeast Japan on March 11. There was no injury to the employees or damage to the facilities at Akita Elpida.
With more than 90% of packaging and testing operation being outsourced to overseas, Elpida claimed that the previous shutdown of Akita Elpida should have a minimal impact on the company's earnings.
Taiwan's Powertech Technology (PTI) and Walton Advanced Engineering reportedly are among Elpida's major contract partners for packaging and testing.
